With the car industry steadily evolving toward more sustainable automobility, battery-powered and battery-assisted vehicles have become more popular and practical than ever. Honda is preparing for its next generation of electrification with the all-new Honda Prologue right around the corner. However, for Elgin-area drivers seeking improved miles per gallon without plugging in, Honda offers two hybrid variants of the critically acclaimed Accord and CR-V. Drivers from St. Charles to Libertyville, IL, can find the latest electrified Honda models at Brilliance Honda of Crystal Lake. Here's a quick look at what each has to offer.
Honda Hybrids
Hybrid vehicles employ an electric motor to alleviate some of the engine's workload, resulting in reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions. They also deliver smooth and often more responsive acceleration. One benefit of hybrids is that they charge while you drive via the engine and regenerative braking, so they don't need to be plugged in to enjoy greater driving range and improved efficiency. Honda offers hybrid variants of the Honda Accord and Honda CR-V.
Honda Accord Hybrid
The Honda Accord is the standard setter of the midsize sedan segment. A peerless blend of comfort, refinement, drivability, and reliability has made the Accord an almost permanent fixture on Car and Driver's 10Best list. A full 11th-generation refresh in 2023 made the Accord even better, with upgraded accommodations and features and a sharp new look.
The 11th-gen Accord has integrated its hybrid variant into the main lineup, where it serves as the standard powertrain for the top four trim levels (Sport, EX-L, Sport-L, and Sport Touring). The battery-assisted 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine produces 204 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque, turning the front wheels via a smartly tuned continuously variable transmission.
The Honda Accord EX-L achieves impressive EPA-estimated ratings of 51 mpg city, 44 mpg highway, and 48 mpg combined. Honda Accord Sport models have larger 19-inch wheels, achieving an EPA-estimated 46 mpg city, 41 mpg highway, and 44 mpg combined.1
Honda CR-V Hybrid
Much like the Accord in the midsize sedan segment, the Honda CR-V is among the most compelling crossovers in the compact class. It boasts generous passenger accommodations, expansive practicality, easy drivability, and a long list of desirable amenities. The CR-V was also fully redesigned in 2023, debuting for a sixth generation to its own Car and Driver 10Best recognition.
The Honda CR-V's 2.0-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine is the standard powertrain for Sport, Sport-L, and Sport Touring models. Front-wheel-drive CR-V Hybrid models achieve EPA-estimated ratings of 43 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 40 mpg combined. Selecting all-wheel drive reduces EPA-estimated ratings slightly to 40 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 37 mpg combined.1
