2015 Honda CR-Z vs 2015 Scion tC
If bold styling and sporty handling are your top priorities here in the Elgin and Schaumburg, IL area, then you might be interested in the 2015 Honda CR-Z or the 2015 Scion tC. Both affordable sporty hatchbacks should excite drivers thanks to their efficiency and high tech features. So how do you decide between the two? Let’s take a closer look!
Performance and Efficiency
The 2015 Honda CR-Z is a hybrid that makes 130 hp and 140 lb-ft of torque with the combination of a 1.5L four-cylinder and an electric motor. The 2015 Scion tC makes more power with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine at 179 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque. Most of that advantage will be negated, however, because the Scion weighs 500 pounds or 20 percent more than the CR-Z. Honda also offers a Honda Performance Development supercharger kit that raises the output of the CR-Z up to 197 hp, which is obviously more than the tC.
The EPA rates the CR-Z with automatic transmission at 36 mpg city/39 mpg highway/37 mpg combined and the Scion TC with automatic transmission at 23 mpg city/31 mpg highway/26 mpg combined*. That’s not much of a competition. If fuel costs and tail pipe emissions are something you’d like to avoid, then the CR-Z is obviously a better choice.
Features and Options
These two vehicles might be priced similarly but they don’t get similar equipment. In the 2015 Honda CR-Z you get important standard features like:
- Hill Start Assist
- Variable Assisted Steering
- Automatic Climate Control
- A rearview camera
- A stereo antitheft system
- A rear wiper
You won’t find any of these as basic equipment in the 2015 Scion TC.
